The Biggest Flower Garden in the World
Keukenhof is a huge flower park in Lisse, Netherland. Keukenhof, which means “kitchen garden”, is the greatest flower garden in this world with seven million flower bulbs spread in an area of 32 hectares. This garden is one of Holland’s top attractions and only opened for two months in the spring, so it’s no surprise that you can only enjoy the enchantment for just few weeks. It was the intention of a mayor from Lisse to have an open-air exhibition for the growers to show their latest hybrids and to help Holland to be the biggest flowers exporter in the world.
The park is surrounded by tulip fields and it displays flowers both in the outside area and greenhouse. You can also enjoy the view of blooming spring flowers other than tulip like daffodils, narcissus and hyacinths. Orchids, azalea and hydrangeas in pavilion and greenhouse are also worth watching. It opens each day from 8 am to 7 pm and you can enter with only 11 euros per person (5.5 euros for children). The garden’s path and sidewalk are easy for such a large area and at one end of the garden there’s a windmill which can be used as landmark. If you’re tired of walking, you can relax and take a seat on one of the several cafes and snack bars there.
The best time to enjoy the beauty is quiet morning hours, because it’s extremely crowded and uncomfortable at times in the afternoon. You can take a train or drive from Amsterdam to access this place. Don’t forget to bring a lot of film or good digital camera because you will take so many photographs more than you plan. Enjoy the amazing scenery you can’t find in any other side of this world, even if you’re not into a flower.
